The doors of Max Dupain's studio opened in 1934 and he continued capturing life in his native Sydney during his 60-year career, creating some of the most memorable images in Australian photography. His pictures followed ideas in modern European photography and were mostly black-and-white, with high contrast and dramatic lighting from the strong sunlight typical for Australia. In the 1960s Max found his passion in architecture photography and for the rest of his life he continued using his photography to document the transformation of Sydney in a cosmopolitan city.
