Galerie Galuchat was founded in 2011 by French father and son team, Jean and Rafael Perfettini, who want to return shagreen back into the spotlight. The Galerie Galuchat iPhone and Samsung Galaxy Ace cases are made in Thailand and come in a choice of four colours and with the option to have your intials engraved in the case's silver lining.

Shagreen, or ray skin, is valued for its durability and waterproof qualities and has been used for centuries in decorative elements on objects such as samurai swords and glass frames. Stingray skin is made of a mosaic of mineralised pearls, called spicula, which are uniquely arranged in each animal and come together to form a central beaded pattern. In the 18th century the master leatherworker Jean-Claude Galluchat popularised ray skin shagreen amongst the French aristocracy and it came back into fashion during the Art Deco period in the early 20th century.
