Euxinograde, Bulgaria

The Euxinograde palace, close to Varna, was built in 1882 as a seaside summer residence for the Bulgarian monarchs. The palace is surrounded by a park, considered an object of gardening and park art. The park is a specific ecosystem of over 300 plant species, most of which are not found elsewhere on the Balkan peninsula, but were originally imported from Istanbul, Hungary, France and Italy. The palace grounds also include mineral springs and a vineyard with region-specific grapevine sorts that are used by the Euxinograde cellar.

Melnik, Bulgaria

Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria, situated in the southwest corner of the country in the Pirin mountain. The town is famous for its architecture and wine made of a unique local vine cultivar, grown on the sandy sunny shores of the Struma river. A short trek outside Melnik winds its way through the sandstone rock formations called the Melnik Pyramids and naturally ends with a glass of red wine in one of the cosy cellars in the town.

Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria

Our last source of inspiration is a late autumn walk through Vitosha Mountain, in the foothills of which the Bulgarian capital of Sofia is nestled. Starting from Aleko Hut, and winding through the nature reserve Bistrishko Braniste, Mt. Yarlov Kupen and down to the village Jeleznica, this is one of our favourite mountain treks and serves us as a regular reminder that in nature no two moments are the same.

Rila Monastery

Rila monastery is a UNESCO world heritage site in Rila, the highest mountain in Bulgaria and in the Balkans. In perfect harmony with the serenity of the surrounding nature, it is a place where it is impossible not to leave behind your daily cares and just wind down.

Koprivshtitsa, Bulgaria

и безутешна възроптае;

1887-1916

A PRAYER

Press your hand upon my lips
When my wandering soul
Folds its tired wings
With a desperate sigh.
Protect me! Press your hands upon my lips!
Lest in my anger and my sorrow
This neverending sadness conquers
And I call you with a spiteful name.

Zheravna, Bulgaria

Zheravna is a tranquil village tucked away in the heart of the Balkan mountain range. Most of its 200 wooden houses date from the 18th and 19th century and have been preserved for their unique architectural style. A magical place where time seems to have stopped to a still and you can leave all your worries behind with the echo of your footsteps along the winding cobblestone streets.
